About

I’m just a regular guy who happens to like to do things perfectly.  When I get curious about something I become obsessed and will study and research the topic until I feel I have a very good understanding of it.  Is this a disorder?  All I know is that it has greatly helped me in life!

  1. Amazing. Simply just that
    I’ll
    Be contacting yr suggested broker

I may need advise. I can’t find examples of what modifications are red flags w. Importing a car.

    I’m
Importing a restored 1971 Toyota fj40. All back to original
Specs. Original matching numbers and chassi. but sometime between 1971 and 1980, a previous owner added Toyota power steering, ac, front discs breaks and upgraded the gear box from 3 speed to 4. It must have been done at a Toyota dealer. Don’t want to relive those essential
Features. Cause it was all Toyota. ……so am I in trouble? If they are consider modifications , they were done over 25 years ago. Anny Yelp I’ll appreciate it. The car didn’t even came w. Seatbelts from the factory. And previous owner never added them. So I’m not doing that I was told that could Seth the clock back w.DOT. And I was told by a broker that those “mods” were ok since they are Toyota parts and they were done over 25 years ago

  2. What are you supposed to do if you are importing a car via land – such as driving it into the US from Mexico by yourself?

    1. I’m not too familiar with that process but I imagine if the vehicle is worth less than $2500 you can just show up and file an informal entry on the spot. There’s no ISF filing and bond since that only applies to sea cargo. For a formal entry, you probably need to hire a customs broker to file that in advance.

    1. There is no limit, per se, but informal entries are supposed to be done for non-commercial purposes. Import enough in a short time frame and CBP may get suspicious and deny future informal entries. That said, you can do formal entries to your hearts content.

  3. I’m in desperate need of help trying to register/title a 1991 Nissan Figaro in Ohio.

Can you email me so I can explain my situation privately and, maybe, you can help. I understand time is money, therefore, I don’t expect you to help for the fun of it. We can discuss that too.

    1. Hello, I’m not a customs broker but if you’re looking to hire one I’d recommend Great World Logistics out of San Francisco. Many readers have used them and have had very positive experiences. They have the lowest fees I’ve seen as well.
